What is Shadow Work?

Shadow work is the practice of exploring the hidden aspects of yourself—the emotions, traits, and beliefs you’ve suppressed, rejected, or been unaware of. These "shadow" parts often influence your thoughts and behaviors in ways you may not fully understand, creating inner conflict or external challenges. By bringing these parts into the light with curiosity and compassion, shadow work helps you integrate them into your conscious awareness, fostering wholeness and emotional awareness.

This work is not about "fixing" yourself. It’s about recognizing that every part of you serves a purpose, even the parts you may feel ashamed of or wish to hide. Shadow work allows you to face these parts with courage, compassion, and curiosity, transforming what once felt like a burden into a source of strength. It reminds me of learning how to add self-energy to the shadows.

Shadow work involves acknowledging the parts of yourself that may be difficult to face. For example, if someone sets a boundary with you, it might bring up feelings of rejection, anger, or insecurity. Instead of reacting defensively, shadow work encourages you to reflect on why these emotions surface and what they might reveal about your past experiences and patterns.

Shadow work is about looking inward to better understand yourself, rather than focusing on external circumstances. As you grow in self-awareness, your relationships may shift in positive ways. It involves recognizing past patterns, offering yourself compassion, and making space for both your emotions and those of others.

What to Expect

Engaging in shadow work is a deep, introspective process. You’ll explore your inner world through:

  • SoulCollage is a creative and intuitive art process that helps you visually represent different aspects of yourself, including your shadow parts. By creating and interacting with these images, you can access insights that words alone may not reveal.

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a therapeutic approach that helps you identify and dialogue with different "parts" of yourself, such as protectors, exiles, and managers. This method fosters self-compassion and helps you build a deeper relationship with all aspects of your psyche.

  • Self-compassion therapy helps you learn to meet your shadow parts with kindness rather than judgment, cultivating an inner environment of acceptance and growth.

  • Meditation and Journaling practices help you connect with your inner world, process emotions, and integrate new insights into your daily life. They provide a safe space for self-reflection and grounding.

  • Caroline Myss's work with shadow aspects will be used to look at the archetype patterns that exist in all humans.

Shadow work is a deeper exploration of the unconscious patterns and stories that influence your life. It can bring up discomfort but also offers a chance for greater self-awareness and understanding.

Who is Shadow Work For?

Shadow work is for individuals who are ready to face themselves honestly and take full responsibility for their personal growth. It’s a powerful journey for:

  • Those who feel stuck in repetitive patterns and are ready to uncover the root causes.

  • Individuals who struggle with self-doubt, anger, shame, or fear and want to build a more compassionate relationship with themselves.

  • People who are ready to take ownership of their growth and make meaningful changes in their lives.

  • Those seeking deeper self-awareness and emotional balance.

  • Individuals who are open to creative and introspective processes, like art-making, meditation, and journaling.

Shadow work is best suited for those who are ready to engage in deep self-exploration and personal growth. This process requires courage, openness, and a willingness to step outside your comfort zone.

Why Shadow Work is Powerful

Shadow work helps you recognize the parts of yourself that have been hidden or overlooked. By exploring these aspects, you can gain insight into your patterns, make more intentional choices, and develop a deeper understanding of yourself.

This process helps you:
  • Recognize self-sabotaging behaviors.

  • Cultivate deeper self-compassion and emotional resilience.

  • Build healthier relationships by understanding and owning your triggers.

  • Gain clarity about your values, desires, and purpose.

  • Feel more whole, confident, and empowered in your daily life.

I incorporate creative expression, archetypal exploration, and mindfulness to help you explore your inner world in a safe and supportive way. Shadow work isn’t about reliving the past—it’s about understanding your story and moving forward with greater self-awareness.
