Further overview and detailed structure of our time together

This method is designed to help teach specific tools to deepen friendship and intimacy in your relationship. To help you productively manage conflicts you will be given methods to manage "resolvable problems" and dialogue about gridlocked or perpetual issues.  We will also work together to help you appreciate your relationship's strengths and to gently navigate through its vulnerabilities

  • 1st session meet together so I can understand your goals and I will ask questions about past/present

  • Then Assessment after the first session.  Here I will give you a link and you will answer a very thorough set of questions. To be honest it's very detailed and takes about 60-90 minutes. Its done online.  The assessment was developed by the Gottman Institute. The Gottman method has been developed from over 50 years of scientific research by Dr. John Gottman, this data-driven relationship assessment tool relies on intensive, detailed, and evidence-based information on why relationships succeed or fail.  The cost for the assessment is $40 which is the cost the institute charges for the assessment.

    • The assessment will ask you a variety of questions related to the state of your current relationship.  This is Fully HIPAA compliant, the questionnaire consists of 337 questions about friendship, intimacy, emotions, conflict, values, and trust, as well as parenting, housework, finances, individual areas of concern, and more.

    • The assessments gives you a great roadmap into your relationship - what is hurting and what is working.  In the next couple's session,  we would review the results of the assessment.  Though, please note Individual responses from the assessment will not be discussed instead we use the assessment to look at areas of strengths and areas to enrich.

  • Next, I will meet with each person individually.   In the individual sessions, I will meet with each couple individual for maybe 45 minutes so I can understand each individual's narrative, personal goals, family history and work on building a  solid rapport.  We also discuss that there is no confidentiality from one another in these sessions because couple therapy cannot work with secrets.  The individual sessions can be done at any time and remember can be done online during the day.

  •  Then each following session we will further include a skill or a lesson from the "Seven Principles"  and will continue to discuss, learn, grow and practice with the information you have gained in previous sessions. I do minimize yelling and non-productive harmful fighting in our sessions as this is not a good use of your time in our sessions together. I require clients to commit to this goal. Instead, we will redirect hurts and complaints to understanding and listening to each other's needs.  This is why I set up clients to succeed from the beginning, as each client must still respect their partner to listen to each other needs in a healthy way.  The relationship needs to be safe enough for you to focus on what YOU need to change vs. hoping to come to counseling so your partner will change.

  • On average couples attend counseling for 6-9 months weekly or biweekly.

  • Sessions can be in person in my Tulsa office or Online Video sessions. I am licensed for Texas and Oklahoma.
